You can help preserve our natural world – for all of us

Species extinction is an issue that affects our entire planet, and everyone who lives on it. Despite increasing awareness, wildlife continues to vanish from our planet, with dozens of species going extinct every day.

Cards expire. Species shouldn’t.

We invite you to send a virtual Wildlife Impact gift card to friends and loved ones, which can be used everywhere Debit Mastercard® is accepted.
Each card features a Critically Endangered animal, along with an expiry date that highlights just how short the timeframe is for protecting these animals from extinction. For every card purchased, a $1 donation will go to Conservation International to help protect wildlife and the habitats of many Critically Endangered Species.

The expiration dates on the cards correlate to that animal’s possible extinction date to build awareness that Critically Endangered Species and more than 2,000 other animals could potentially be lost forever. The introduction of Wildlife Impact Cards and the expansion of Mastercard’s partnership with Conservation International are steps towards a more hopeful future for these wildlife species and the habitats where they live.

There will be various options to participate. In the United States, for each prepaid Mastercard Wildlife Impact gift card purchased, $1 will be donated to Conservation International to support their efforts to protect and preserve wildlife, Critically Endangered Species and their habitats. In addition, consumers are encouraged to donate to Conservation International’s Sustainable Landscape and Seascape initiative through Mastercard Donate, a donation platform that allows secure and seamless consumer donations to critical causes.

For each Mastercard Wildlife Impact gift card purchased in the U.S., $1 will be donated to Conservation International.

Conservation International has many years of experience in distributing and allocating funds into programs targeted to protect Critically Endangered Species and their habitats. Proceeds from Wildlife Impact Cards will go toward habitat conservation by supporting Conservation International’s Landscape and Seascape initiative as well as other wildlife restoration initiatives worldwide to help support the conservation of 40 million hectares of habitat by 2030 that are home to diverse wildlife and Critically Endangered Species.

No. All donations will go to Conservation International to support their efforts to protect and preserve wildlife habitats, including those of Critically Endangered Species. The animals on the cards represent some of the thousands of Critically Endangered Species around the planet. Consumers are invited to purchase a card and utilize the Mastercard Donate platform to donate to Conservation International and support their work to conserve habitats where wildlife and Critically Endangered Species live.

Yes, it’s possible to donate residual balances on the Wildlife Impact prepaid gift cards in the U.S. Consumers can do this by donating with the gift card account number in the amount they choose up to the card balance. There is no automatic gifting that occurs.

The cards are now available in the U.S. as virtual prepaid gift cards and will be rolling out later this summer in physical card format made from sustainable materials, e.g., recycled or certified alternatives to traditional materials as part of Mastercard’s Sustainable Materials Directory.

The initial set of featured species in the U.S. include four Critically Endangered Species: the Sunda Pangolin, African Forest Elephant, Peruvian Yellow-Tailed Woolly Monkey and the Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur. As and if the cards are made available globally outside of the U.S., we expect that at least 15 of the more than 2,000 Critically Endangered Species will be available for our issuers to choose for their portfolios and make available to consumers.
