A platform to unite corporate sustainability efforts and make meaningful investments to preserve the environment through planting trees.

Mastercard believes that the private sector can do more and make real impact by combining efforts and engaging businesses and consumers to take action. Together with our partners, Mastercard reaches nearly 3 billion people around the world – our goal is to empower businesses and consumers to join us in taking collective action.

Establishing roots

Trees are one of the critical networks on which the earth runs. Current levels of carbon emissions, use of natural resources and pollution are exceeding limits that are environmentally sustainable or safe. In turn, people across the globe see and feel these realities affecting their communities today and potentially for generations to come.

Together with partners who are committed to doing well by doing good, the Priceless Planet Coalition pledges to plant 100 million trees over five years. Planting trees does not replace the need for companies to reduce carbon emissions, invest in energy efficient workplaces and operational processes, source renewable energy, or adopt a sustainable supply chain. But planting trees is one of the biggest and most effective ways of capturing CO2 out of the atmosphere to tackle the global climate crisis. Assisting us in this goal will be our tree planting partners, Conservation International and World Resources Institute with partner One Tree Planted.

Extending commitments

Our commitment to planting trees is just one step to deliver tangible progress in ensuring this Priceless Planet on which we live is healthy for future generations to enjoy. This effort is an extension of Mastercard’s environmental sustainability goals, adding to our existing commitments to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, source 100% renewable energy and pioneer environmentally conscious solutions.

Coalition Partners

True to their own missions, these partners have, for a long time, placed significant emphasis on their own sustainability efforts.

Why trees?

Forestation is one of the most effective ways to combat climate change. Key benefits:

Trees are a cost-efficient, nature-based solution for mitigating the impact of greenhouse gas emissions.

icon watering trees

Sustainable forestation projects help reduce the occurrence of climate-related disasters, such as fires and flooding.

Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide a habitat for wildlife.

"While our own footprint on greenhouse gasses is relatively small, where we can really make a difference at scale is by using our network effect to reach our customers and their clients.”

- Ajay Banga, President and CEO, Mastercard
